mHealth: When Smartphones Become Healthcare Tools

The global mobile health (mHealth) market reached $75 billion in 2025 and is expected to double by 2030. In Vietnam, with over 78 million smartphone users, mHealth is becoming a crucial bridge between patients and the healthcare system, especially in rural areas lacking specialist doctors.

Notable Applications in Vietnam

The Electronic Health Book (by Ministry of Health) has over 30 million accounts, allowing users to check test results and medical history. Private apps like eDoctor, Jio Health, and Doctor Anywhere offer 24/7 online consultations for 100,000-500,000 VND per session. Notably, blood glucose monitoring apps for diabetic patients and medication reminder apps are significantly improving treatment adherence.

Health Data Security Challenges

The biggest issue with mHealth is personal health information security. Decree 13/2023 on personal data protection has created a legal framework, but many apps still lack full compliance. Users should be cautious when sharing health data, only use Ministry of Health-licensed apps, and carefully read privacy policies before registering.
